Defining Health Through Friendship

Whoever decided that weeks should be significantly longer than weekends obviously needs serious mental help.

Just saying.

I just got back from a week/weekend roadtrip, and started off my Sunday with a glorious trip to Whole Foods to stock up on essentials (I’ll post some in my next post!), and now I’m taking a break between the massive piles of homework and projects that my teachers oh so graciously blessed me with over the weekend. So giddy about that jazz.

On Thursday, I decided to take a 2 1/2 hour drive trip to visit my old college, and a few of my favorite people.

Leaving the city in the rear view mirror.

You know you’re in mountain-man country when your radio stations go from Lady Gaga and Kanye to in and outs of static and songs about cows and sexy tractors.

The cow thinks my tractor's sexy

With a little love from my friends, a healthy balance of alcohol and stories from years past, here’s how to spend the perfect weekend away from the city:

1) Go on an adventure and consider it all the exercise you’ll need for the week. Because let’s face it, getting lost in a cornmaze is a lot more challenging when you’re over the age of 5…true story.

2) Become a pro at making dippy eggs and impress the hell out of your friends. Dippy eggs are hard to perfect, either that or I’m just challenged in that aspect…got any tips?

3) Go back to the cornmaze after properly fueling up and fail at finding your way again. But have a blast doing it anyway by chucking corn, playing with the animals and other activities that twenty-something year olds really shouldn’t be doing.

4) Engage in unhealthy but worthwhile activities later that night, and dance your ass off, then eat it back on when you’ve got the munchies.

5) Most importantly: focus on the time you get to spend with those you wish you saw more often.

Life is too short to worry so much about material things, worry about the people that love you, the people who you make you feel good, no matter the time of day, no matterย how much eye makeup is smeared down your face in the morning after a rough night, no matter the number on the scale and no matter the things you’ve been through in the past. Having a beautiful support system in your friends is one of the key components to living a healthy, happy life.

What do you love most about your close friends?

What did you do this weekend?

Peace and love!

Meg

p.s. I feel really bad about not being able to keep up with your blogs and/or comments on my posts.

ย Just know that I still read and appreciate your posts (I’m addicted to blogs, duh!) andย  your commentsย – school projects have been taking over almost all of my spare time, I promise I’ll catch up one of these days ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you understand!

P.S. I can been trying repeatedly to perfect the drippy egg…I’m getting closer, but i’m definitely not at perfection yet. Booo!

  2. Randy

    I dig the Volcom

  3. my really great friends are those I can LAUGH with… that I can be completely comfortable with and talk to also.

I have to have the egg whites totally cooked. while cooking, I take the spatula and push down on the part right around the yolk… temp is medium high, and careful flipping. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Friendship and spontanaity are the cinnamon and sea salt of life, aka essentials! What a fun weekend. And #5 is so true.
My best egg tip comes from my dad: if you think you’ve cooked them just right, they’re overdone!

  5. Hey,

This is my first time to your blog so I wanted to drop in and say hi! Love the post, I’ll be back ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Love love this post! Sometimes (uhh or all the time) it is just so nice to let go and hang out with friends! And yes, finding your way out of a corn maze = exercise! Glad you enjoyed your weekend love ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I actually had a very similar weekend! Lots of dancing, drinking, apple picking, french fry eating, drinking, dancing, drinking, a little bit of sleep…you know how it goes. I love my friends because they are just as crazy as me. When someone suggests that we put down our solo cups to go swing on the playground, we all run out there and go. We just have a ridiculous amount of fun no matter where we are or what influences we’re under (usually not any – we’re crazy sober too) and college has just been one amazing experience after another.

Have a good week – just a few more days until the weekend!

  19. How fun! I agree, we do need to spend more time focusing on friendships and relationships! Life has been pretty crazy lately – I forgive you! ๐Ÿ™‚

PS – Love the new pic of you in your widgets… so pretty!

  20. the pic of yall in the corn field is hilarious! love it!

  21. Oh God, Sexy Tractors? Thanks for getting that song in my head!!!

  22. That is one of my main goals now that I am so busy with school. Keeping up and growing relationships is so important.

and dont worry–we are just happy to see your gorgeous face when you post.

  23. School projects are the worst! It looks like you had a great weekend though! And I totally agree that weeks should be shorter : )

  24. thecookiemonster

What a beautiful post. I have been thinking about this a lot lately! Life is too short to sweat the small stuff…have fun, and make sure you enjoy doing what you’re doing, and then don’t worry. ๐Ÿ˜€

    BTW…big tip for dippy eggs:

When the egg white looks almost cooked through (there should still be a bit clear around the yolk though), take a tablespoon or two of water, dump it in the pan and then cover it with a lid/plate for a couple seconds. After you take it off, the egg will be absolutely perfectly cooked, the yolk will still be liquid, and the texture of the egg white will be incredibly smooth ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. so glad you had such a fun weekend! this post brought a huge smile to my faaace. ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Meg, are you going to foodbuzz by chance?
Anddd what I love most about my best friends is (obviously) that I can truly be myself, but more so that when I am not acting like myself, they get it, and snap me the hell out of it.

  27. COWS! Gah those are the cutest pictures I think I’ve seen on a blog, and I agree with the above comments about how beautiful your hair is, and how beautiful -you- are.

Your weekend looked so fun! I spent a lot of my studying (boo), because it’s half-term season here and we’re all trying desperately to oh, you know, pass.

Ps: is that a flip cup table I see? ๐Ÿ˜‰
pps: The egg comments here are great. Dippy eggs are Leo’s favorite and I had no idea how to make them for him until now. Thanks lady(ies).

  28. I love this:
Having a beautiful support system in your friends is one of the key components to living a healthy, happy life.

So true. Surrounding yourself with people who love you for you and make you feel good is essential. Great reminder!

    Love the cows.. lol ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. Lol, that all looks like so much fun. Love the cornmaze pictures. We have one nearby that I go to every year! It’s awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚
